Benefits
What does "basic needs" mean?
The basic needs amount helps with the cost of food and other essential items. The amount an eligible recipient receives for basic needs is dependent on many factors:
- the number of people in the family
- the cost of accommodation
- your current income and assets
- the presence of special needs
- child support payments
Shelter costs are determined by the Ministry of Community and Social Services rates.
Other Benefits
All employment and Financial Support participants receive assistance to help with the cost of basic needs items. For extraordinary items or services, a client may receive additional financial assistance known as Other Benefits. For a list of Other Benefits items please click here.
