YOUTH INTERVENTION WORKER

To provide for the well-being of Mississaugi First Nation youth ages 13-30 through crisis intervention and conflict resolution techniques associated with prevention and post intervention of youth suicide, self harm, risk-taking behaviours, and conflict resolution.

  • Service Delivery:


  • Ensure effective client service by providing intervention strategies and follow-up of a supportive, educational, and skills building nature to youth, groups, and families.
  • To obtain consent and accept referrals from community workers, to coordinate appropriate and preferred counselling referral services for all youth, groups, and families.
  • To ensure that services are presented in a professional manner using the wholistic teachings when responding to a crises situation.
  • Access a traditional helper or preferred denomination when required for spiritual guidance/healing for community youth members and for consultation
  • Provide culturally appropriate information/education and training concerning crisis intervention to community members and caregivers.
  • Develop and implement a plan for ongoing professional development with traditional Elders/teachers.
  • To work in conjunction with the Community Wellness Worker to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of community crisis response systems including such programs as: crisis hot lines, volunteer crisis teams, and on-call systems for First Nation’s employees.
  • Seek direction and consultation from Program Supervisor with regards to developmental, implementation, and revision stages of policies, procedures, assessments and referrals as required by youth.
  • To develop and coordinate workshops for the youth regarding youth suicide, self esteem, and culture awareness
  • To establish a positive working relationship with colleagues and community members.
