Mississauga First Nation Library

"The Library works in conjunction with
The Mississauga First Nation Education Department
to bring programs and services to the community"
About Us
The Mississauga First Nation Library has been in operation since 1986. Since this time we have grown out of a tiny one room Library to a building we share with the Enjikendaasaang Learning Centre.
We, in co-operation with the Education Department, work together to promote literacy and reading in our community.
The Library is funded in part by The Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation. We have links with the Ontario Library Service - North and Ontario Library Association. As a First Nation we are a member of The First Nation Library Advisory Committee.
The Meaning behind our Logo - The birchbark scroll was used for writing down important parts of our history to preserve it. The Thunderbird is the signature used by the Mississauga's in the past when dealing with treaties and the government. The eagle feathers are used to communicate with the creator and allow the person to talk holding the feather.

Book Collections
The Mississauga First Nation LibraryCollections are made up of books owned by Mississauga First Nation and supplemental texts are on loan from Ontario Library Service - North. We also subscribe to the rotating blocks -native and non-native books from this service which we keep for a period of four months. These nooks include newer titles than those found in supplemental texts.
We are currently in the process of adding a Native Resource section to the Library. We have various books in our collection that deal with First Nation information, and local information of the Mississauga First Nation.
