CHI-NAAKINAGEWIN
The Chi-Naakinagewin Department is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering Mississauga legal development projects.
The department also oversees restorative justice through the Debaakinagewin Enagadoot, works with the Wiindamaagewin Enagaadoot to share information from all departments both internally and externally.
​The Mississaugi Nation Coordinator Liaison ensures that Mississauga First Nation remains aligned with the values and vision of the Mississaugi Nation.

Roles and Responsibilities
CHI-NAAKINAGEWIN DIRECTOR
The Chi-Naakinagewin Director holds a central role in coordinating the Governance, Legal, Judicial, and Economic Development activities of Mississauga First Nation. Reporting to the Director of Operations, they facilitate communication between Chief & Council and the Chi-Naakinagewin Department, ensuring the implementation of policies, guidelines, and strategies. Responsibilities include supervising staff, assisting with performance evaluations, supporting Chief & Council directives, updating the Comprehensive Community Plan, maintaining the Risk Register, and preparing annual reports. They also oversee legal, justice, and economic development initiatives, advocate for diversion from the criminal justice system, and collaborate with various departments and organizations.
Naakinagewin Coordinator
The Naakinagewin Coordinator collaborates closely with Chi-Naakinagewin staff to execute the department's mandate, involving resource acquisition, effective community consultation, and external collaboration for successful program development. Ensuring quality control and transparent communication with community members, senior management, and stakeholders is paramount. Reporting to the Chi-Naakinagewin Director, the role encompasses overseeing legal development activities for Mississauga First Nation, including organizing constitutional implementation, conducting workshops, supporting the Constitution Committee, coordinating project activities, producing progress reports, and participating in stakeholder engagements. The Coordinator also contributes to budget tracking, report preparation, and post-project evaluations, while planning timelines and milestones using project management methods.
By-Law Officer
The By-Law Officer will be responsible to carry out a variety of technical and administrative duties, program responsibilities, and group leadership associated with Lands & Resources Management enforcement, security, and education and environmental. The By-Law Officer will monitor/enforce all MFN laws/bylaws as they relate to community living, First Nation Lands, Dog bylaw, and harvesting activities by First Nation members and visitors, and issue offence notices to all violators of hunting, fishing, harvesting regulations and Environmental concerns as per our ratified Land Code June 2009.

The By-law Officer will also consult with MFN’s Indigenous Justice Circle for advice and assistance in administering restorative justices within the community. The MFN By Law Officer will also be required to patrol Mississauga First Nation Lands via means of foot, All Terrain Vehicles, Snow Machines, Boat/Canoe and provide monthly updates on any occurrences.

Wiindamaagewin Enaagadoot
(Communications Coordinator)
The Wiindamaagewin Enaagadoot at Mississauga First Nation is responsible for devising and executing an effective communications strategy to enhance community engagement and transparency. Reporting to the Chi-Naakinagewin Director, the role involves developing standardized communication approaches, managing social media platforms, assisting with the OneFeather voting service communication, transitioning the community newsletter, coordinating a Wiindamaagewin Committee, researching and implementing alternative communication methods, facilitating citizen participation, and promoting the program through outreach and presentations. The Enaagadoot will ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to communication policies while exploring technological tools for engagement and developing branding guidelines for MFN materials.
