Community Economic Development

The Mississauga First Nation strategic plan calls for the Community Economic Development Officer (CEDO) to support community and social development mandates by linking economic opportunities to MFN's social, cultural and environmental needs as well as the community's wants and desires. Achieving the community's goals for self-reliance include generating sustainable economic growth, community control and increasing the capacity of MFN band members, both on-reserve and off-reserve to meaningfully participate in the local and regional economy.

The CEDO's mandate requires diligent networking and relationship building while addressing needs for program funding that sustains department operations. Other activities include connecting individuals with training and employment supports, business support for existing firms as well as  start-ups, resource management supports and other related activities. The department responds to inquiries from community leadership and its membership to investigate and explore economically sustainable ventures.

MFN's CEDO is an Aboriginal Technician, certified by the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers (CANDO). This ensures your CEDO is connected to resources, projects and programs across the country. Through this partnership, they are able to bridge these opportunities to local individuals, businesses and organizations. MFN also has partnership ties to the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) and the Ontario First Nations Economic Developers Association (OFNEDA).
