Roles and Responsibilities

INFRASTRUCTURE DIRECTOR

The Infrastructure Director is responsible for overseeing, managing, and evaluating all aspects of the Public Works and Housing Departments to ensure the effective delivery of public services while upholding safety, reliability, and efficiency. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role involves directing technical aspects of road maintenance, construction, housing projects, water works, fire department, and equipment management. The director is accountable for asset maintenance, project planning, health and safety compliance, team management, budgeting, policy development, proposal writing, interagency collaboration, community liaison, reporting, and the operation and maintenance of the water plant system. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the community's infrastructure functions optimally and in line with established standards and regulations.

HOUSING & PROPERTY MANAGER

The Property Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient daily operations of the Housing Program and properties at Chiblow Lake and Darrel Lake. Reporting to the Infrastructure Director, the role involves managing resources, coordinating administration, verifying applicant status, rent collection, budgeting, ensuring compliance with regulations, coordinating repairs, and providing tenant support. The Property Manager collaborates with the Housing Committee, attends workshops, and communicates with Chief and Council. The role encompasses comprehensive property management, from financial and administrative tasks to tenant relations and program expansion initiatives.

HOUSING ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Housing Administrative Assistant role involves providing administrative and clerical support to the Housing and Infrastructure Department. Reporting to the Property Manager, the assistant's responsibilities encompass a range of administrative tasks, including setting up purchase order systems, managing mail, filing documents, greeting visitors, answering phone calls, and assisting with record-keeping through scanning and archiving housing documents. The role also involves assisting in the development of maintenance files, creating monthly newsletters for health, safety, maintenance, and preventative measures for housing units, organizing Housing Committee Meeting minutes, and offering technical support in various clerical and administrative tasks for the housing program and services. The assistant may also arrange meetings, prepare correspondence, track inquiries, and participate in training and special assignments as needed.

FIRE PREVENTION/PUBLIC WORKS TECHNICIAN

The Fire Prevention and Public Works Technician role involves independent supervision of technical operations related to fire prevention, protection, and public works. Collaborating with the Infrastructure Department, the technician supports various tasks under the Infrastructure Director's guidance, including heavy equipment operation, road maintenance, water system maintenance, and sanitation activities. The role encompasses fire prevention services such as recruitment and training of volunteer firefighters, equipment maintenance, fire extinguishing, and collaborating with other fire departments. Additionally, the technician operates heavy equipment, assists in road maintenance, and conducts general labor duties. The position reports to the Infrastructure Director and maintains Mississauga First Nation's fire protection assets, allowing for significant independent judgment in line with established policies and objectives.

ROAD LEAD/PUBLIC WORKS TECHNICIAN

The Roads Lead and Public Works Coordinator role involves comprehensive administration, planning, and supervision of road maintenance, bridges, and corridors within Mississauga First Nation. This includes routine maintenance, capital projects, and adhering to regulations. The coordinator oversees equipment purchases, budgeting, and expenditure control. Collaborating with the Infrastructure Director and Fire Chief/Public Works Coordinator, the role manages water plant operations, fire and emergency responses, heavy equipment operation, road maintenance, and general labor duties. This position requires independent judgment in alignment with established policies and objectives. Key responsibilities include organizing and overseeing road maintenance, ensuring safety protocols, managing equipment and vehicle maintenance, operating heavy equipment, conducting water plant operations, and performing general labor tasks. This role plays a crucial role in maintaining the road network, water systems, and overall community infrastructure.

WATER PLANT/PUBLIC WORKS TECHNICIAN

The Water Plant/Public Works Technician plays a significant role in supervising technical operations related to water plant systems, heavy equipment operation, road maintenance, and general labor duties for Mississauga First Nation. Reporting to the Infrastructure Director, this role operates the water plant, collects and logs water samples, maintains water systems, and responds to emergencies. Additionally, the technician operates heavy equipment for road maintenance, construction, and cemetery preparation. They conduct road maintenance tasks, such as clearing ditches and sanding roads, while also performing general labor duties like sanitation collection and event setup. The position requires independent judgment, adhering to established policies and objectives, and ensuring safety standards are met throughout all activities.

PUBLIC WORKS TECHNICIAN

The Public Works Technician plays a key role in supporting the Infrastructure Department through the upkeep and maintenance of Mississauga First Nation’s capital assets. Reporting to the Infrastructure Director, this position is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of the water plant, maintaining roads and public facilities, operating heavy equipment, and performing a wide range of general labor duties. Working closely with the Water Plant Operator, the Roads Lead, Fire Chief, Maintenance Management Technician and other departmental staff, the technician ensures that the community’s water systems, road networks, facilities, and outdoor spaces remain safe, clean, and fully operational year-round. Responsibilities include water sampling, road repairs, snow removal, sanitation collection, landscaping, and building maintenance. The Public Works Technician contributes to the health and safety of the community by adhering to standards, using personal protective equipment, and responding to emergencies when needed. This role requires a strong work ethic, versatility, and a commitment to maintaining the well-being and infrastructure of Mississauga First Nation.

MAINTENANCE MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN

The Maintenance Management Technician role involves overseeing the daily maintenance and security of Mississauga First Nation's community buildings, parks, and waste transfer station. Reporting to the Infrastructure Director, the technician is responsible for ensuring safety, cleanliness, and proper functioning of these facilities. The role includes monitoring sites, performing necessary maintenance and repairs, reporting trespassers or misuse, and operating small motor equipment for tasks such as lawn care and equipment maintenance. The technician also coordinates the cleaning and maintenance of play parks, baseball parks, and the cemetery, ensuring grass cutting and waste removal.

TRANSFER STATION ATTENDANT

The Transfer Station Attendant is responsible for overseeing daily operations at the waste transfer station, ensuring the safe and efficient disposal of materials while maintaining compliance with established procedures. Reporting to the Infrastructure Director, this role involves monitoring waste sorting and placement, inspecting loads to prevent prohibited materials, and maintaining accurate waste records. The attendant is responsible for opening and closing the transfer station, greeting residents and waste haulers, verifying identification, and providing guidance on disposal procedures. Additionally, the role includes maintaining cleanliness, organizing collection areas, conducting daily site inspections, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The Transfer Station Attendant supports other staff by mentoring less experienced employees and assisting during absences to ensure operational continuity. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a well-organized and environmentally responsible waste management system while upholding safety and service standards within the community.
