Binojee Nagdawenjigamik
​Daycare​

The Mississauga First Nation Day Care is a non-profit organization and it is licensed under the Child Care and Early Years Act by the Ministry of Education.
​

The Mississauga Day Care Centre strives to provide the following:
  • An environment for children that is positive, safe, secure and stimulating
  • A warm atmosphere that encourages the development of children's self confidence, self esteem and self worth
  • Activities in a setting that meets the developmental needs of all children, including their physical, intellectual, creative, emotional, social and cultural needs.
  • To enhance School Readiness skills to ensure student success.
  • To encourage and provide employment opportunities for students enrolled in Early Childhood Education Programs
  • To provide parenting skills and role models to those parents and student volunteers requiring training in development, behaviour management and cultural growth.
  • To provide the children with Native Culture such as: Singing, Dancing, Drumming and Smudging
  • To have the cultural resources available

​We believe that our staff is one of the most important aspects in achieving quality programming. Staff are responsible for creating the atmosphere, nurturing and respecting the child and seeing that he/she grows in the best way that he/she possibly can. All qualified staff are registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators on a yearly basis.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Daycare Manager
The Day Care Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Mississauga First Nation Binojee Nagdawenjigamik Centre, including program planning, staff management, community engagement, student mentoring, and administrative tasks. They ensure quality child care services and early learning experiences in alignment with the Center's vision. Reporting to the Education Director, the manager supervises all Day Care staff, develops and monitors the budget, maintains records for reporting, upholds provincial standards, and ensures a safe environment. They coordinate the program's use for student practicums, maintain positive parent relationships, and encourage parental involvement. The manager plans and implements a program based on the center's philosophy, supports professional development of staff, conducts staff meetings, handles hiring processes, and adheres to personnel policies. They also maintain positive public relations, liaise with relevant agencies, promote the program, and stay informed about child care and early learning philosophies.
Administrative Assistant
​The Administrative Assistant role involves providing essential administrative support to the Day Care Manager. They maintain filing systems, organize meetings, handle incoming calls and emails, manage mail distribution, assist with staff orientation, help in playrooms when needed, manage supplies, and ensure confidentiality. The assistant coordinates office services and logistics, assists in the Daycare setting, helps with basic financial functions, and follows finance policy. They ensure administrative tasks are completed, prepare reports and correspondence, establish work priorities, and maintain records. The role plays a crucial part in maintaining efficient operations and supporting various administrative aspects of the Day Care program.
Head Teacher (3)
The Day Care Head Teacher is responsible for ensuring excellent childcare services for children in their assigned classroom, aligning with the Center's Program Statement and relevant regulations. Reporting to the Day Care Manager, the Head Teacher supervises and guides children's physical, social, cultural, mental, and emotional development. They work in groups, provide open-ended play materials, document learning experiences, assist the Daycare Manager, attend meetings, and maintain communication with parents. Their responsibilities include tidying, equipment sterilization, and implementing Native culture activities. They must follow relevant guidelines and regulations, uphold professional standards, and attend center functions outside operational hours. The Head Teacher must establish positive relationships with staff, demonstrate flexibility in work hours, and ensure program objectives are met.
Teacher (2)
The Day Care Teacher is responsible for delivering excellent childcare services to children in their assigned classroom, following the Center's Program Statement and relevant regulations. Reporting to the Day Care Manager and collaborating with the Head Teacher, they monitor and supervise children's physical, social, cultural, mental, and emotional development. They work in groups, plan and implement programs using relevant documents, maintain communication with parents, ensure well-prepared play areas, and document learning experiences. The Teacher assists the Program Manager, attends meetings, and carries out general duties. They must uphold guidelines, regulations, and professional standards, attend center functions outside operational hours, and establish positive relationships with staff. Flexibility in work hours is required.
Learning/room Assistant
The Learning / Teacher Assistant's role at the Mississauga Day Care Center involves ensuring that children receive high-quality childcare services in accordance with the Center's Program Statement and relevant regulations. This assistant reports to the Head Teacher / Day Care Manager and is responsible for monitoring and supervising children in their assigned classroom. The key functions of this role include supervising children during free play, guiding their development, assisting in group activities, maintaining communication with parents, preparing play areas, documenting learning experiences, assisting with cultural activities, and supporting the Room Teacher when necessary. The assistant is expected to be sensitive and responsive to children's needs, adhere to regulations and standards, attend Center functions, work collaboratively with staff, and uphold professionalism while contributing to the implementation of program objectives. The role requires flexibility in work hours.
Maintenance Custodian
​The Maintenance Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the building, both inside and outside, under general supervision. This includes minor repairs, equipment maintenance, and ensuring a safe environment. The role involves various cleaning tasks, snow removal, lawn care, and assisting with equipment maintenance and repairs. The custodian reports to the Day Care Manager, supports a safe workplace, and collaborates with the Program Manager and staff. Key responsibilities include regular cleaning, floor maintenance, garbage disposal, playground upkeep, snow removal, and assisting in equipment maintenance and minor emergencies. The custodian must communicate with the Program Manager, follow maintenance procedures, and perform other duties as assigned.
Cook
The Cook at the Mississauga Day Care Center is responsible for preparing daily nutritious meals for young children and performing assigned tasks under general supervision. The Cook reports to the Day Care Manager and oversees kitchen operations, including meal planning, preparation, hygiene, and food distribution. Key responsibilities include planning menus within Canada Food Guide guidelines, maintaining inventory, purchasing and storing food, serving meals, ensuring food safety practices, keeping records of special diets or allergies, cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. The Cook plays a crucial role in providing healthy and safe meals for the children at the daycare center.
PLEASE NOTE:
We are CLOSED on STAT HOLIDAYS, MFN HOLIDAYS, and other MFN office closures as well as the following:

2 WEEKS at Christmas (Christmas Break)
1 WEEK during March (March Break)
1 WEEK in July for the E.C.E Conference

FEES
1 Child - $40.00 per Month ($40.00 deposit required at the beginning of enrollment, this will be used for the last months enrollment fee).

CHILDCARE SPACES
There are a total of 32 childcare spaces
  • Infants (6 - 18 months)
  • Toddlers (18-30 months)
  • ​Pre-school (30 - 5 years)
Should a parent be considering our daycare facility for their child, it is advised that they contact the Program Manager immediately to ensure the child's name is added to the waiting list. Enrollment can take place as soon as a vacancy becomes available.
