NON-INSURED HEALTH BENEFITS PROGRAM
Access to prescription drugs, dental care, vision care, medical supplies and equipment and emergency crisis counseling are recognized rights of First Nation peoples.

Mississauga First Nation does not have the jurisdiction to administer these services on behalf of community members. The First Nation & Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) of Canada has sole control of this program.

​Please inform one of our Regulated Health Professional if you have been denied any of these services provided under the Non-Insured Health Benefits Program. Tracking the information/problem is a vital part of politically addressing health concerns.

Community health nurse

Medical Transportation Program
  • To manage the medical transportation benefits and services for MFN clients attending medical appointments to the nearest appropriate medical facility and to provide receptionist duties for the Health Unit.
  • Coordinating medical transportation services that include local and out-of-town appointments and prior approvals submissions.
  • Ensuring community members are informed of any last minute changes.
  • Supervising the medical transportation drivers in their duties and procedures while transporting clients.
  • To perform front desk receptionist duties for the Health Unit.
Health Records Clerk
  • To perform the duties of Health Records Clerk by providing clinical support services for the health unit staff, clients and visiting professionals.
  • To perform the duties of booking appointments with the various visiting services.

VISITING SERVICES PROGRAM
Family Physician
  • To perform clinical duties by seeing and assessing clients for routine health and illness care
  • Prescribing treatment and keeping other physicians informed regarding problems when on call
Nurse practitioner
North Shore Tribal Council Nurse Practitioner (NSTC NPs) are registered nurses, who specialize in primary health care. They are experienced nurses with additional nursing education which enables them to provide individuals, families, groups and communities with health services in health promotion, disease and injury prevention, cure, rehabilitation and support.
Physiotherapist
The profession focuses on the prevention and rehabilitation of an injury or disease.
  • To enhance or restore function in order to improve ones quality of life through an assessment of physical needs and development of a personalized plan to help one achieve their goals.
occupational therapist
  • To promote community members independence and well-being by providing in-home assessments and treatment services for all ages, including elders and children who may be restricted by physical and/or mental disabilities.
registered dietician
​Registered Dieticians are the professionals for food, diet and nutrition information and works with a health care team to provide a dynamic Diabetes Care Clinic.
  • To deliver a Nutrition Program that meets the needs of the community as a group or on an individual basis.
chiropodist
  • To specialize in foot care including casting for orthopedic insoles and assess foot problems.
environmental health officer
  • To provide advice and direction on matters concerning environmental maintenance, protection and safety.
